Questions? We have answers.
What is normal skin and how do I recognise it?
Normal skin is well-balanced: not too oily, not too dry. Characteristics include an even complexion without excessive shine, minimal visible pores, little to no sensitivity to external triggers, a supple texture and a healthy, rosy glow. The skin feels comfortable throughout the day without becoming tight or greasy. Normal skin is relatively rare and the most desirable skin type, though this changes with age, seasons and lifestyle.
Which treatments are best for normal skin?
Normal skin needs fewer treatments to solve problems, but benefits enormously from preventive and maintenance treatments. The best choices are: a regular deep cleansing facial (once every 4 to 6 weeks) for pore cleansing and glow, LED light therapy with red light for collagen maintenance, a mild chemical peel per season for texture improvement and the Carbon Laser Facial as a special refresh. Our skin therapist is happy to put together a preventive maintenance plan.
How do I keep my normal skin in optimal condition?
Keeping normal skin in top condition is simpler than other skin types, but does require consistency. A solid basic routine: gentle cleanser (non-foaming or lightly foaming), a light moisturiser and daily SPF 30 or higher. Add a vitamin C serum for antioxidant protection. Exfoliate lightly 1 to 2 times per week. At night a serum with retinol or hyaluronic acid supports skin renewal. Our skin therapist is happy to discuss a complete home plan at the Product Consultation.
Can normal skin change into a different skin type?
Yes. Skin type is partly genetic but does change with age, hormones and lifestyle. As you age, sebaceous glands produce less sebum and normal skin can become drier. Hormonal changes during puberty, pregnancy or menopause can temporarily make normal skin oilier or drier. Chronic stress, poor diet and excessive sun exposure also accelerate changes in skin type. Our skin therapist adjusts your treatment plan if your skin changes in character.
Does normal skin also need SPF?
Absolutely. Daily SPF is the most effective measure to keep normal skin young and healthy. UV radiation is the greatest external cause of premature skin ageing and pigmentation spots, even for normal skin. Our skin therapist recommends at least SPF 30, broad spectrum, year-round, even in cloudy weather or indoors with window exposure.
How do I slow skin ageing with normal skin?
Slowing skin ageing with normal skin starts with daily SPF, followed by antioxidants (vitamins C and E), retinol or retinoids at night and good hydration. Professionally, LED light therapy, mild peels and PRX-T33 treatments are proven effective for collagen maintenance. Avoid smoking and excessive sugar in your diet: both accelerate collagen breakdown. Our skin therapist puts together a preventive anti-aging treatment plan based on your age and goals.
How many treatments per year do I need for normal skin?
For normal skin a treatment frequency of once every 4 to 6 weeks is ideal for maintenance. That is 8 to 12 treatments per year. Want to focus more on ageing or glow? Our skin therapist then recommends a planned course schedule with alternating treatments. Many clients choose a quarterly deep cleansing, a seasonal peel and a few LED sessions per year as a basic plan.
Are treatments for normal skin safe during pregnancy?
Mild treatments such as deep cleansing facials, red LED light therapy and the Aqua Peel are generally safe during pregnancy. Our skin therapist adapts the protocol and avoids strong peels, retinol-based treatments and laser treatments. Always discuss your situation with your midwife or GP. SKIN is happy to treat pregnant clients with a safe, adapted plan.
