Preparation
Sun-free preparation
Avoid sun, sunbeds and self-tanners for at least 2 weeks beforehand. Use high SPF and stop exfoliating products 3 days prior.
Treatment
IPL hair removal
Concentrated light pulses are absorbed by the hair pigment and damage the follicle. The treatment takes 15-30 minutes and feels like small pricks.
Aftercare
Shedding & continuation
Hair falls out after approximately 2 weeks. Shaving between sessions is fine; waxing is not. 6-10 sessions needed — every 4 weeks (face) or 6 weeks (body).

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between IPL and diode laser?
Diode laser uses a single targeted wavelength, while IPL uses a broad spectrum. Our diode laser works deeper, faster and more effectively than IPL — with more permanent results per session. The integrated cooling system also makes the treatment more comfortable.
How many treatments do I need?
On average 6 treatments are needed with 4-6 week intervals. After this, typically 70-90% of hair follicles are permanently damaged. Some areas or hair types require additional sessions.
Which skin types and hair colours do you treat?
We treat Fitzpatrick skin types I to III (light to medium) with brown to black hair. Light blonde, red and grey hair contain too little pigment for the laser. This treatment is not suitable for darker skin types (Fitzpatrick IV-VI).
Is laser hair removal painful?
The treatment isn't painless but very tolerable. It feels like light pricks or warmth on the skin. Our Luminary laser has an integrated cooling system that cools the skin during each pulse — making the treatment significantly more comfortable than older lasers.
Do I need to shave before the treatment?
Yes, shave the treatment area 24 hours in advance. The laser targets the hair root under the skin, not the hair above — that would only burn. Do NOT wax or epilate in the 4 weeks before treatment, as the hair follicles must remain intact.
Which location?
Laser hair removal is performed exclusively at SKIN Centrum (Haarlemmerstraat 140). Our other locations (Oud-West, Oud-Zuid) do not offer this treatment due to the specialised diode laser equipment.
