Step by step

What can you expect?

Every skin reacts differently. Below you will find an overview of what you can expect before, during and after the treatment.

Before treatment

Suitability assessment

Our specialist evaluates your skin type and determines which peel intensity (AHA/BHA or TCA) best suits your concerns.

Preparation

Skin preparation

Stop retinol, exfoliants and self-tanners at least one week before treatment. Use SPF daily.

Treatment

Peel application

The selected acid solution is applied, activating controlled skin cell renewal. You feel a tingling or mild burning sensation.

Aftercare

Recovery period

The skin may feel tight and dry. Use a hydrating cream and avoid sun, intense exercise and exfoliating products.

Recovery

Peeling phase

Flaking is normal and lasts 3 to 7 days. Do not pick at loose skin; the new skin layer beneath is extra sensitive.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a chemical peel and how does it work?

A chemical peel is a controlled treatment in which our skin therapist applies a fluid containing fruit acids or TCA to your skin to loosen dead skin cells. The top layer exfoliates faster and we stimulate the production of new, healthy cells. The result is smoother skin, refined pores, reduced pigmentation and a fresher complexion. At SKIN we work with three levels: Essential (€100), Advanced (€130) and Intensive (€160). During your intake the skin therapist determines which level best suits your skin.

Which skin concerns is a chemical peel suitable for?

A chemical peel is versatile and works on acne and blackheads, pigmentation spots and hyperpigmentation, dull or tired skin, fine lines, light sun damage, superficial acne scars and enlarged pores. Have one stubborn spot? Consider a TCA Spot Treatment (€90) for targeted treatment. During your intake the skin therapist determines which peel strength best suits your skin and concern.

How many treatments do I need and how often?

For visible results we recommend a course of 4 to 6 treatments, spaced 2 to 4 weeks apart. This rhythm gives your skin time to recover and build collagen. For stubborn pigmentation or acne more sessions may be needed. A single peel gives an instant glow for a special occasion, but for structural results a course is essential.

Does a chemical peel hurt?

A chemical peel is well-tolerated. During the treatment you may feel a light tingling, burning or warm sensation. This lasts a few minutes. With deeper peels (Intensive or TCA) the sensation is more intense but never unbearable. Your skin may feel red and warm for a few hours after, similar to mild sun exposure. The skin therapist cools your skin directly after the peel and sends you home with the right aftercare products.

What are the side effects and how much downtime is there?

Most people can resume their day immediately after the treatment. Expect light flaking 1 to 3 days after treatment, lasting around 5 to 7 days. The skin can feel tight and dry. Use a rich, fragrance-free cream. Deeper peels (Intensive, TCA) give more flaking and sometimes temporary darkening. Picking at peeling skin is not advisable, it can cause scars.

When will I see results from my chemical peel?

Right after the first treatment your skin feels smoother and shows a light glow. The real result (more even tone, reduced pigmentation, softening of fine lines) becomes visible 1 to 2 weeks after the treatment, once skin renewal is complete. For structural improvement of acne scars or deep pigmentation multiple sessions are needed. Expect visible progression after 3 to 4 treatments.

Can I have a chemical peel in summer?

Yes, but with care. A chemical peel temporarily makes your skin more sensitive to UV radiation, increasing the risk of pigmentation. In summer we recommend our Essential or Advanced peel (superficial). Strict sun protection is mandatory: at least SPF 30, applied daily, even when cloudy. During a course you should be extra careful with direct sun and tanning beds.

Can I wear make-up after a chemical peel?

We recommend skipping make-up for the first 24 hours so your skin can recover. After that you can use make-up again, but choose a mild, non-comedogenic foundation. During the flaking phase (day 2 to 7) it helps to skip make-up or use a light tinted moisturiser. Heavier foundation can clog the skin.

Is a chemical peel safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Mild fruit acid peels (glycolic, lactic) are often considered safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, provided they are in low concentrations. TCA and salicylic acid peels are not suitable during these periods. Always check with your midwife or GP first. At SKIN the skin therapist only carries out carefully adjusted treatments during pregnancy after a thorough intake.

What does a chemical peel cost at SKIN?

Our prices start from €100 for the Essential peel (30 min). This is a mild fruit acid peel that is perfect for maintenance and a first introduction. Advanced (€130, 30 min) is stronger and suitable for pigmentation and acne. Intensive (€160, 45 min) is the deepest option for visible results on pigmentation and dull skin. For one stubborn spot there is the TCA Spot Treatment (€90). Optionally add LED therapy (€25, 15 min) to accelerate recovery.
