Diode laser, guided by a skin therapist

Laser Hair Removal in Amsterdam

At SKIN Centrum in Amsterdam we remove hair with a diode laser that targets the hair at the root. After a full course, hair growth is significantly reduced. Every treatment starts with a consultation and a test patch, so our skin therapist can assess whether laser hair removal suits your hair and skin type. Consultations are available in English.

What does laser hair removal cost at SKIN in Amsterdam?

SKIN Centrum uses a diode laser that targets hair at the root, reducing hair growth significantly after a course of around 6 to 8 sessions. Price depends on the treatment zone, from €50 for small facial zones up to several hundred euros for larger zones such as the back or legs. Laser hair removal does not work on blonde, red or grey hair and is not suitable for every skin type.

Our approach

Why laser hair removal with a skin therapist

Laser hair removal looks simple, but the settings matter a great deal. Our skin therapists are trained at HBO level (Dutch professional bachelor level) and match the energy of the diode laser to your hair thickness, hair colour and skin type on the Fitzpatrick scale. The wrong setting delivers no result, or worse, a burn or a change in pigmentation. That is why every course starts with a consultation and a test patch.

During that consultation we also discuss your expectations. Laser hair removal only works on hairs with pigment, so blonde, red and grey hair do not respond. On tanned or naturally darker skin we choose more cautious settings or advise against treatment. This prevents disappointment and keeps your skin safe.

Some situations are a contra-indication. We do not treat freshly tanned skin, do not laser over moles or tattoos, and are cautious with pregnancy, certain medications that make the skin light-sensitive, and active skin conditions in the zone. A skin therapist always assesses these factors beforehand.

Noticing excessive or suddenly increased hair growth in unusual places? There may be a hormonal cause behind it, such as PCOS. In that case we discuss whether a visit to a GP (huisarts) is sensible before starting, as addressing the underlying cause falls outside a skin therapist's scope of practice. As an expat, your GP is your first point of contact for that referral.

Frequently asked questions

How much does laser hair removal cost in Amsterdam?

Price depends on the treatment zone. Facial zones start from €50 (for example eyebrows) up to around €189, while body zones range from €65 for the underarms to €395 for full legs. For most zones we offer a 5+1 free package. During the required consultation you will hear the exact price for your zone.

How many sessions do I need for lasting results?

Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only works on hairs in the active growth phase. That is why an average of 6 to 8 sessions is needed, spread over several weeks to months. After a full course, hair growth is significantly reduced. Maintenance sessions may be needed later, for instance with hormonal influences.

Does laser hair removal work on every hair and skin type?

No. The laser targets the pigment in the hair, so blonde, red and grey hair respond little or not at all. Not every skin type is suitable either: darker or tanned skin requires extra caution. That is why every course starts with a consultation and a test patch, so the skin therapist can assess whether laser hair removal is safe and worthwhile for you.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Most people find laser hair removal well tolerable: a brief warm tap with each pulse, often compared to an elastic band flicking the skin. Our diode laser has a cooling system that protects the skin and softens the sensation. Sensitive zones can feel a little sharper, but the treatment is quick.

What should I avoid before and after treatment?

Do not come with tanned skin and avoid the sun and tanning beds in the weeks around your treatment. Shave the zone shortly beforehand, but do not epilate or wax, as the root needs to be present. After treatment, avoid sun, sauna and intense exercise for a day, and use a high SPF on the treated zone.

Is laser hair removal covered by Dutch health insurance?

Laser hair removal counts as cosmetic skin care and is not covered by the Dutch basic health insurance (basisverzekering). With a medical indication, such as excessive hair growth from an underlying condition, a supplementary policy may sometimes cover part of it. Check with your own insurer beforehand.
